Most US and Canadian airlines have no weight limit for a pet in the cabin. 18 airlines we track publish only a carrier size, so the bag decides: your pet must stand and turn around in a carrier that fits under the seat. 43 airlines do cap the weight, most of them at 8 kg (17.6 lb) including the carrier.

Which airline lets the heaviest pet fly in the cabin?
Among airlines that publish a weight number, JSX is highest at 30 lb (its wording: "under 30 lb (pet only; a separate 80 lb leashed-floor-space program applies to larger dogs, not tracked here)"). Among airlines with no weight rule, Contour Airlines publishes the largest under-seat size (24 × 16 × 10 in), which fits the biggest carrier.
Does the weight limit include the carrier?
Usually yes. 36 of the 43 airlines that publish a weight limit count the pet and the carrier together, and the most common cap is 8 kg (17.6 lb), used by 25 airlines. The soft carriers whose makers publish an empty weight weigh 2.5 to 4.3 lb, so weigh your pet in the bag before you book.
